I'm Chet Charles Sr., and I'm running for Red Wing City Council because Ward 4 deserves a voice that puts our community first. Right now, too many of our neighbors feel unheard, unattended, and left behind. Our streets are falling apart, we don't get the same patrol attention as other areas, and iconic local businesses like Andy's Bar, Hanisch Bakery, and Anadee's are being ignored while attention goes elsewhere. Those we trusted to lead have focused on their own public images instead of our streets and our rights. That stops this November. I am running to bring transparency, integrity, and real progress to Ward 4. Our residents and small businesses need genuine representation, and I look forward to being your voice on the City Council. Let's move forward together.
Unfortunately, our streets are underserved and the amount of crime in ward 4 is disproportionately higher than other wards in Red Wing. My goal would be to directly engage with Red Wing Police to increase their presence in our neighborhoods as well as encouraging more community engagement.
As we can see with the current 4th street project, the infrastructure in ward 4 is crumbling & far past its expected service life. Our parks are past due for equipment upgrades and our streets & storm water systems are in severe decay and disrepair. As your councilman i will engage directly with the Public Works department to shore up current infrastructure while exploring grants and budget-friendly for upgrades and replacements.
Every voice deserves to be heard. As your councilman, every voice will get their opportunity to share their thoughts and especially grievances as protected under the 1st amendment. Every voice matters & the decisions made by your city council should reflect the diversity of the city. I will engage with community leaders and listen to every voice with full attention because that is what real leaders do.
The city does not make money. The money that the city budgets with comes directly out of the pockets of the citizens and businesses within the city. I will conserve as much of those funds as possible while meeting all of our obligations. Once a surplus is reached, those funds should not "roll into the next budget" they should roll back to the people who pay in. All residents and businesses have to operate within a set budget. When a business runs out of money, they close. When a family runs out of money, they make painful cuts (don't eat, utilities get cut off, etc). The city should, at least cut spending to meet their obligations and show responsibility with public funds. As your councilman i will not vote for any additional levies or tax increases. Hard stop. Your money, your business' money belongs in your pocket. I will be your voice of fiscal conservancy and responsibility.
